Santa Ana is the second largest city of the country. It is only 50 km from San Slavador and lies in a rich coffee and sugar cane growing region on the slopes of the Santa Ana volcano. It is an attractive town with many old buildings.

The main sights in town include the Theatre, the neo-gothic Cathedral and several churches in colonial style of which the Church of El Calvario is the nicest.

Excursions can be made to Lake Coatepeque, Tazumal and Chalchuapa.
