Vila Velha (Old Village) is the name of a group of natural sculptures that look like ruins of a deserted city. Situated approximately 80 Km Northwest from Curitiba and 20 Km Southeast of Ponta Grossa, Vila Velha is as a well-known tourist attraction.
The sculptures are located in a National Park. The sandstone sculptures have received a variety of names suggested by the imagination of the visiting public: Cyclops city, camel, sphinx, ship's prow, bottle, turtle, wine-glass (the symbol of Vila Velha) and others. The heights range from a few meters to about 30 meters.
The people of Espirito Santos know the name as the old town accross the river from Vitoria the state's capital. It is the location of Vitoria's best beaches and its best neighborhood Praia de Costa.
