Banana Bungalow Maui Hostel (Hostel) -
310 N. Market St. Wailuku, Maui Maui USA
We're only about 3 miles from the airport, and it's really easy (though it may
sound confusing).
* From the airport terminal or your rental car place, get onto
Airport Rd. (basically, it's the airport access road, head away
from the airport and you're going the right way.)
* At the first light, take a right onto Haleakala Hwy. Follow this
for about 1/5 and turn right at the intersection, onto Hana Hwy.
* After a few hundred yards, the road will curve to the left and
magically become Kaahumanu Ave. (though there isn't a sign really
marking this change). Follow Kaahumanu Ave. for about 2 miles
through the city of Kahului.
* You will start going up a gradual incline and go under an
overpass. Stay in the right lane at this point, as you will be
crossing a bridge after a few hundred yards and need to be in the
right lane to keep going straight (the left lane turns into a left
turn only lane).
* At the second light after the bridge make a right hand turn (this should be Market St.)
* Go straight through the four-way stop (Vineyard St.) and follow the road down and over the bridge.
* We are on the corner right after the bridge (310 N. Market St.)
Directions to the Banana Bungalow by Bus
This is where you can find the Maui bus schedule. http://www.co.maui.hi.us/bus/
From the airport pick up zone #3 you can take the Upcountry Islander #40 or the Haiku Islander #35 to Ka'ahumanu for $1.
From Ka'ahumanu Center you can take either the Wailuku Route #1 or #2. Route #2 takes around 24 mins and #1 takes around 35 mins. Wailuku Route is free.
Once you are on the Wailuku Route you will want to get off at Pi'lhana Terrace. You can tell the bus driver that you are going to Banana Bungalow and they will know where to let you off.
The city bus does have luggage restrictions. You can only take luggage on the bus that you can fit on your lap. If you have a lot of luggage you will probably need to take a taxi. A taxi cost around $25.
