The Yucatan peninsula is packed with history. This was the heartland of the Mayan civilization and you will find many temples in Yucatan: ranging from the small but romantic temple of Tulum - it is almost on a white beach -to the biggest Maya temple of Mexico of Chichen Itza (there is an even bigger one just accross the border in Tikal in Guatemala.

Cancun is quite likely to be your place of arrival in Yucatan. It is a beach resort with little to offer but sun, sea san, good hotels and a convenient place to take the bus from to somewhere else. Cozumel is the place to go for diving fans.

Merida is located in the heart of Yucatan and is a very nice city. Campeche with its old fortifications is also worth a visit.
