Guernika is most famous for the painting by Pablo Picasso - they have a copy of it in the local museum, the original is in Madrid- but the place is very interesting for all tourists. The beach is spectacular with a hige difference between high and low tide and there are some grottoes with old paintings nearby. In this rural market town in the Basque highlands the town now boasts of having Euskadi's only Irish owned country pub and Europe's only Irish whiskey bar-Scanlan's Tavern www.bilbaodenoche.com with an infusion of Basque/Irish culture "craic" will be had .Gernika is the heart of the Basque country and a visit to their famous tree is a must.Check out the towns festival in August .
