If you come from the airport you have the following choices:
Aerobus: it leaves each 11 minutes (week days) and 20 minutes (Saturdays, Sundays and festivities), the main stop is at Plaza Catalunya is pretty near, is a nice walk through the Ramblas to the hostel but I suggest taking the green metro line 3.
Train: it leaves from a station very near to the terminal and it stops in Plaza Catalunya too, so you can take the metro green line 3.
If you come from the train stations:
The main train stations are Gants Estacioand Paseo De Gracia, there is a green metro line at the two stations.
If you are flying with Ryanair:
This company flies to Reus airport and especially to Girona airport:
If it lands in Reus you have to take the bus to Barcelona (1h and 30 min), it stops in Gants Train Station where you can take the green metro line.
If it lands in Girona then you have to take the bus to Barcelona (1h) 9 (approx). There is a bus 30 minutes after each landing, once in Barcelona it stops in Estacio del nord there is a metro station near called Arc de triomf where you can take the red line 1 and change in Plaza catalunya to take the line 3 to liceu
