Rarely can it seem odder to list a place under 'city.' Elgol is a tiny village on the southern coast of Skye. It is reached by car or bus fromBroadford after a wonderful drive past the peaks of Blaven, the black Cuillin peak detached from the main ridge. Elgol is a pleasant enough village but its main claim to fame is as the access point for Loch Coruisk, surely one of the most beautiful spots in the UK. Coruisk can be visited by boat, trips being frequent from Elgol. On foot it is an easy and delightful coastal walk as far as the beach at camasunary but between there and Coruisk there is a notorious 'bad step.' It is less the technical difficulty than the high degree of exposure above the sea which means it is only passable by those with no touch of vertigo. Though farther, it is more easily reached by footpath from Sligachan
