Dunvegan is set on a sea loch between the peninsula of Vaternish and Duirnish. It is located some 20 miles fro Portree. The main reason to come here is to visit the MacLeod castle up on a hil just outside of town.
Although it was partly rebuilt in the 19-th century the medieval outline of the fortress is still quite clear. Inside is a museum with a few important relics of the famility suchas the Fairy Flag and the Dunvegan Horn. The gardens of the castle are well tended and a great place to sit back and relax.
In summer it is also possible to take a boat and visit the colonies of seals who live on teh small islands just off the coast.
