Tilburg boomed as a textile industry town. Over the recent years the city centre has been completely restructured - and is quite nice now. Museum de Pont - in an old woollen fabrics factory - and the Textile museum are highlights. The famous Tilburg funfair is the largest in Europe. Two weeks of fun and thrills right at the height of summer; all the latest attractions and the nostalgia of fortune tellers and the try-your-strength machine.
Tilburg is surrounded on all sides by marvellous woods and scenic areas; a green environment where peace and quiet reign supreme. Fine examples are the Loonse en Drunense Duinen, the fens around Oisterwijk, the Regte Heide (heath land), and the marshland De Brand in Udenhout. In addition, the city has many parks and public gardens, including a number of beautiful classical parks.
