They serve an awesome breakfast and are centrally located as to experience the best (or the worst!) of Amsterdam (depending on why you're there of course!) The dorms with own bathroom are the best, the hall bathrooms kind of smelled bad, and the beds aren't all that comfortable but that big bowl of cereal every morning kind of made up for that!

I took a trip to Amsterdam at the last minute with a fellow female student. We'd heard about the flying pig from friends and headed straight for it. Although they were disorganised in finding us a room we were settled in 2 hours and had spent that time in the bar drinking Duvel, the hostel being the cheapest place to drink. The hostel was clean, friendly and very relaxed! In the middle of the red light district and all the action, yet it felt safe and homely and our belongings were secure. The hostel was what made our trip so amazing, it was safe, fun and friendly. The only bad points were the unfilling breakfast, which also ran out earlier than printed. But we will return, it was great!

The downtown one is not in the red light district it's a few streets over including the main street. The vondelpark one is located in the best area your not too far from downtown and your near the park and you've got the Leidesplein, Rijks and van gogh museums, and Heineken Brewery nearby.
