Samos is one of the northern Aegean islands with waterfalls, green scenery and impressive rock formations. You'll find the larger towns (Samos and Vathi) on the eastern side that offer besides some small museums, plenty of touristy facilities, such as big hotels and large swimming pools.
When you head off for the western part of the island, check out the quieter beaches of Kokkari and Potami. There are several interesting historical sights, such as the temple of Hera (located in Herion), Roman ruins and white washed monasteries. This is the place where Pythagoras the mathematician was born, hence why the University of Mathematics is located on the island.
Samos can be reached by ferry from Turkey and a lot of people make it into a day-trip. It is also well connected to Athens by regular flights.
