Started in the 30's during Karelia's independant era, halted following World War II and completed in the 60's following a lease agreement with the Soviet Union, this second incarnation of the Eastern-Finnish waterlink to the Baltic sea provides an interresting opportunity for tourists to visit the city of Vyborg, nowadays in the Russian part of Karelia.
