  • Ho Chi Minh City Travel Guide & City Information

More than 1000 kilometer to the South of Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City - the new name for Saigon- is still a very capitalistic city. People sell everything from fruit to DVDs on the sidewalk and street corners. The city remains the economic capital and its booming with new hotels and businesses opening daily. Chic bars and clubs are filled with ambitious young expatriates seeking their fortunes.

Quite a few of the landmarks of the colonial days are still standing and they give the large metropolis some character. Furthermore Ho CHi Minh has very good markets, some of them open 24 hours a day. The War Remnants Museum goes in the Vietnam war and gives insight on the official view of the communist side.

Ho Chi Minh City is an ideal starting point for any tour of Vietnam. Highly recommended is a daytrip to Cu Chi and Tay Ninh.
