Leh is one of the most important towns in Ladakh and is well connected to Srinagar by the long road through the Kashmir Valley. The small winding streets, the colourful houses and the main sights will undoubtedly make you stay a bit longer before you set off for a rafting trip, a trekking or another state. The most impressive sight is the Leh Palace that rises high above the rest of the town at the end of the main street. Besides that, there are various temples and gompas. When coming from Srinagar, Leh is one of the best options from which to start your onward trekking tour.



The religious festivals which are held in winter is a come together for all people in this region. In summer time, two famous sports, archery and polo, get the people come together. If you want to have a good look at Ladakh before you actually go there, watch "Dil Se" directed by Maniratnam.
