Embu is located on the southeastern slopes of Mt Kenya, but is actually the provincial headquarters of Eastern Province. Its home to the Embu people, close relatives of the Kikuyu and Meru. Theres little reason for tourists to stay here, unless youre on your way to Chogoria to climb the mountain. If youre looking for a good meal while youre in town, the Arkland Cafe near the roundabout has excellent Kenyan food. If you stay in town, try the Valley View Hotel which has singles/doubles for KSh 400/700 including breakfast. If you have more cash to spend, stay at the Izaak Walton Inn north of town. Its a very nice places with singles/doubles costing KSh 1200/1500.
